A Stratton Lake Mystery

A Stratton Lake MysteryDuring the 1920s and ’30s Chicago was one of the major centers of activity in the United States. When the heat was on and Al “Scarface” Capone had to leave Chicago after the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1929, he and his gang fled to what they thought would be the quieter times of northern Wisconsin. While on route to their Hayward hideout, Capone and his gang stopped at Stratton Lake, hoping to hide the money they stole after robbing a bank along the way. However, Capone finds that the Wisconsin backwoods are not nearly as quiet and peaceful as he hoped when a pair of bored teenage girls sneak out their bedroom window at night and happen upon the gangster’s hideout, setting into motion A Stratton Lake Mystery. Follow this courageous risk-taking family in a series of three adventures by Greg Biba; A Stratton Lake Mystery, Hunt for the Black Coral and Death Wish at Machu Picchu.

Hunt for the Black Coral

900 Miles to Plentywood is a work of historical fiction. As the railroad connected East and West, construction  crews, cowboys, and settlers flocked to the little Montana town of Plentywood. When the hard work was done, many frequented the three saloons for a rip-roarin' time. This brought on the need for a gentling influence who would keep the peace. Mayor bolster found his man in Ben Day who influenced with a nightstick, 2 X 4 or a stick of ash when available. Strangely enough, the valiant Mr. Day survived the turbulent times during which he worked as a peace officer, only to lose out in a gunfight years later, setting into motion 900 Miles to Plentywood.

Accused: The Witch Trial of Margarethe Faust

Hunt for the Black Coral

In the latter half of the 16th century the people of Büdingen, Germany led a very unpleasant existence. The return of the plague in 1596 resulted in madness and great loss in their population and livestock. These conditions were disastrous for an agricultural society such as theirs. Consequently, their city gates were closed and guarded with extra enforcement so that the pestilence would be kept away. In this tightened community women learned to heal with plants, or what they had, for homeopathic, medicinal cures. Witch hunts, then, found a renewed focus.
On May 4th, the village bailiff of Rinderbügen brought those accused of witchery before the mayor. Among the accused, Margarethe Faust, declared her innocence. Driven into a corner by questions, she uttered a similar statement as that of Eulen-Anna. If accused of sorcery, she too, wanted to name others who practiced witchcraft. It probably never occurred to her that her demand was taken as a confession which set into motion the final events of Accused—The Witch Trail of Margarethe Faust.
